The country has to ensure that anyone and everyone who has an interest in agriculture has an opportunity. We are at the edge of a precipice, and it is largely unrecognized. Thankfully, where I farm, which is 40 miles from the nearest town, in the rural West. Color isn’t an issue, my black daughter is welcome and is judged entirely on her ability to cut over 100 acres in the day on a swather. I understand in other areas, she might not face the same set of values. We need DEI, we need diversity and new perspectives, and across the country, we need some more butts to sit on our tractor seats. I honestly can’t grow my farm because we don’t have people available to work.
