What proportion of ranches in the area have seen the light? How much support does the state give to the reform?
Let’s hope the blinkered anti-meat folks can be enlightened about the soil benefit of managed grazing. Without quadrupeds the land can’t recover its fertility.

Much better than lot fed beef with who knows what additives in the feed. We still have a lot of grass fed beef here in Australia. Glad you have been successful..

I think ranchers n farmers are so important to our lives! If it were not for ranchers n farmers who would feed the world? It is a necessary part of life, to have good, healthy food grown for thos that cant or wont grow their own food. Im an earthy person myself n so appreciate what it takes to grow food above or below ground. Whether its veggies, fruit, or animals. U are our sustenence, our very lifeline to living and I don’t think ranchers n farmers get enough acknowledgement or credit for all the hard work it takes to provide our selfish world with food. Your lifestyles not only provide food for the world, but its a lifestyle that not everybody is suited to! Its long hrs staying up waiting for a new calf coming into the world, or a late rescue out in the field, or a drought that one has to figure out how to get water to, or a poor crop caused from locusts n other insects determined to seek n destroy! We the public don’t give the ranchers n farmers the recognition they deserve for the efforts they put in n the long hrs of hard work they endure for the rest of us selfish, n self centered people, n I for one want to take the time to honor these people for the dedication they give thru their lifestyles for the benefit of the rest of society! God Bless all the Farmers n Ranchers around the world for keeping us fed!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely Sylvia

Now we need to reach those well-meaning but misinformed persons that think they can save the planet by forcing everyone to go vegan. Though this was an excellent article, I was somewhat disappointed that there was no mention of the pasture lands being carbon sinks and also pasture provides for a wide variety of plant life. Diversity is so important. Thank you again.

We need more of this, and each article needs to specify a way we can somehow support such positive efforts. :-)

I really wanted grass fed beef but he insisted that I would be sorry or unhappy with the meat. I was in fact unhappy with the feed lot beef. Im bound and determined to get some grass fed. What do you think of my short story, your feelings on the matter. Thanks

We do not have livestock, not do we intend to…hops and small grains keep us busy at present, but very inspiring nonetheless! Can always learn from other Farms and Ranches putting to use, and developing new, sustainable practices for soil and animal health.

Great job!!

A real symbiotic relationship between the grass, cattle, and chickens. Go to: http://www.polyfacefarms.com Really makes me wish I was 30 years younger……

That’s a great suggestion, Grahame – we’ve been hearing lots of cool things about the benefits of incorporating seaweed into livestock production! Look forward to researching it more.
